Skimm Her Life is a series in our weekly newsletter, Skimm Your Life, where smart women share their favorite products.
Emrata has entered the chat. Today she’s here to talk all things fashion, motherhood, self-care, and yes, some of her fave reads too, in honor of the paperback release of her bestselling book “My Body.” (We’re obsessed.) It’s out now — so scoop up your copy and keep on scrolling for her picks.
Three things that are always in my bag…
Aquaphor for keeping my lips hydrated, a set of headphones [HQ loves these], and a very large compact mirror so I can see what I look like.
The baby item I couldn’t live without as a new parent…
The Doona stroller, which goes from car seat to normal stroller easily. It’s the only way I could imagine easily getting around New York City with a new baby.
Best hack for taking off makeup after a day on set…
Bioderma [micellar water] — it’s the best makeup remover in the world. It takes everything off and doesn’t irritate your skin at all.
My go-to comfy shoe…
Any sneaker. I’m wearing a lot of New Balances right now.
What I read while writing “My Body” and what I’m reading right now…
I read so many things while writing. I read a lot of essay collections specifically. I read Alexander Chee, Lacy M. Johnson, Jia Tolentino, and Leslie Jamison. And “The Right to Sex” by Amia Srinivasan. Right now, I’m reading this book called “Complicit” by Winnie M Li.
Favorite thing in my closet that’s surprisingly affordable…
Honestly right now I’m just loving a pair of Zara cowboy boots. I’m wearing them all the time.
Favorite piece of advice (given or received)...
I think trusting your gut is generally the best advice I’ve gotten and received. It’s something that I constantly have to remind myself of, despite knowing how crucial it is. It’s easy to lose yourself and your instincts.
