And she’s got practice, too. Marisa has been at this writing thing now for two decades. Before joining theSkimm, she spent six years as a freelance writer and editor, where her work appeared in outlets like Parents, Business Insider, and GoodHousekeeping.com. She also crafted copy for some of the world’s best known brands: Warby Parker (her first piece for theSkimm, actually), Huggies, Nestle, Heineken, Northwell Health, and the American Cancer Society — to name a few. 

Marisa’s roots have always been in the media world. She started her career in magazines and digital media, as a health editor at First for Women, a launch editor at an AOL-backed start-up (community journalism forever), and a senior editor at KIWI, a parenting magazine, where she edited content across the magazine, curated the gift guide, and spent lots of time on colorful photo shoots. Marisa was also the communications manager for a New York-area hospital, where she had the privilege to tell incredible patient stories. 

Here at theSkimm, she’s worked across every newsletter — from the Weekend Skimm to Well + Good to Well Played. These days, she’s focused on all sorts of fun projects: Curating theSkimm’s calendar to help you plan your day, bringing you your weekly Skimm This (an excuse to follow even more celebs on IG?), and coming up with new and creative ways to make your web experience even better. 

Marisa has a journalism degree from Boston University. She lives in Westchester County, NY, with her husband and two Gen Alpha kids. When she’s not shuttling them around, you can find her reading all the books (yes, she wants to know what’s on your TBR), learning to crochet, and scheming for a way to get back to Italy.
